Between steam engines and new technologies, we meet Zizinha, a guardian who keeps the production of rapadura alive at Engenho Cedro dos Luiz. Moagem is a poetic journey through the past and present of rapadura production in Nazarezinho, which follows the operation of this important sugar mill in the Sertão region of Paraíba for over a decade, dating back to 1813.
A native of Nazarezinho, Paraíba, Ramon Batista is a photographer, filmmaker, screenwriter, and art and photography director. He is the founder of the production company Caiçara Filmes and the creator of Mostra Cine Sítio (2014–2024), an event that helped establish Sertanejo cinema from Paraíba in rural areas.
He has released award-winning films such as Fogo-Pagou (2012), awarded at the 24th São Paulo International Film Festival, Capela (2014), awarded at the 7th Trinfo Pé Festival, Aroeira (2016), Seiva (2019) and Jacu (2024), awarded at the 21st Mostra do Filme Livre, and Tempo de Vaqueiro (2025), shown at important film festivals in Brazil. He participated as an intern and coordinator of the ViAção Paraíba Project (UFPB) and was part of several editions of JABRE – Paraíba Laboratory of Young Screenwriters, as a screenwriter, monitor, photographer and local coordinator.
He is currently in the process of finalizing his first feature film, Moagem.

Audiovisual producer, curator and director of the festivals Curta Taquary, Poesia na Tela and Criancine. He studied “Film script” and “Curatorship, management and network of film festivals” at EICTV (Cuba). He has worked in the audiovisual industry since 2005 in the development, dissemination and production of short and feature films and TV productions. He has produced works shown in more than 100 national and international festivals and exhibitions, including: Cannes, Biarritz (France), Busan (South Korea), Havana (Cuba), Brasília (DF), Gramado (RS) and Tiradentes (MG). He collaborated with the curatorship of the international festivals: Thessaloniki LGBTQIFF (Greece), LABRFF (USA), Hacelo Corto (Argentina), Antofadocs and Muestra Polo Sur (Chile). It works on reforestation and recovery of deforested areas in the Caatinga, Brejo de altitude and Mata Atlântica biomes, in addition to restoring riparian forests on the Capibaribe River.
He works in the field of audiovisual production and cultural management. He develops various initiatives in the third sector, especially in audiovisual training projects through the FilmInBrasil Program, which offers workshops and courses throughout Brazil. An entrepreneur from a very young age, he has been a partner at InCartaz since 1995 and is also part of the board of several institutions and companies across different states in the country. He is the coordinator of EPAC – Escola Popular de Audiovisual do Cariri, in partnership with the Government of the State of Ceará, and of Escola FilmInBrasil RJ, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture. He has taught courses and workshops at institutions such as SESC, SENAI, SEBRAE, BNB, UNESA, UCAM, UFF, among others. His clients and partners include UNICEF, the UN, American Airlines, the University of Michigan, NIKE, and more. He is frequently invited to serve as a curator and jury member at film festivals in Brazil and abroad, and is also the executive producer of 12 festivals. He has directed and produced dozens of short and medium-length films, as well as feature-length documentaries. As an executive producer, he is currently involved in 7 feature films and 2 fiction series. He was recently awarded the title of Citizen of the State of Paraíba in recognition of his contributions to culture.
